Divination 2
In Divination 1, we talked about how card meanings are fluid and changeable depending on the questions asked and who is doing the asking and what is going on in our lives at the time. Every reading is unique and may have complicated meanings to us. In this post we will be discussing the elements within card images.
We will use these two cards as example. In Fishbowl, we see the fish, the colorful rocks, the plant, a mandala (stopper?), the bowl itself, and light beams outside the bowl. In Plasma, we see a body floating in space, a rainbow, stars, a vortex of light and perhaps more… depending on the question asked, you might choose one or several of these elements to divine your answer.
Not all elements within a card are meant for every question. You must use what feels right to you during the reading. If you are reading for someone else, you may get a vibe for a certain element and they may choose another to focus on, or have a different interpretation of the same element. This doesn’t mean you interpreted incorrectly or that your subject is not trusting you… it usually indicates there are layers to the question that needs more than one response. You (or your subject) may not understand immediately; it may take some time to see how the answers really do connect.
We will use a popular question and apply it to these two cards.
“How do I find the love of my life?”
My reading for this question with these two cards drawn in order of fishbowl then plasma, would be for the subject to realize she is restraining herself by keeping within a comfort zone. She may be completely unaware of this action. The comfort zone (bowl) can be many things, so letting this revelation sink in a bit or ask further questions to uncover the restriction.
I would say the subject has been happy in her own little world, maybe creating a life for herself without the distraction of a significant other or reaching a certain status in her job before looking for her soulmate. But now she is ready to open up her heart - and her world (plasma card)! Perhaps she needs to step outside (the fishbowl) and become comfortable there (floating) and allow her love to find her, instead of trying to hard to find the person she envisions. I would also offer up that she could do some meditation/visualization for this love (to get clear on what that love truly means to her).
How would you read this drawing for yourself? for your best friend? or a neighbor? How would the reading change for each subject? Are there elements within the art you would have pulled out for more detail?
We encourage you to go through your decks and spend time with each card. Perhaps ask each card in the deck to show you it’s secrets or to guide you to the best answer in response to a specific question. Using the same question for each card is a valuable technique to see how each one speaks to you!
