A Way To Pray

I have been a Seeker most of my adult life, looking for that ‘something more’ in my life, finally reaching a measure of happiness & fulfillment; but I am still on my journey. We are always on our path. That path is rarely straight or easy and when we feel like we need help navigating, we often turn to prayer. My ideas of prayer and how I pray continue to adapt as my understanding of God and the Universe evolves.

There are myriad ways to pray & connect to God/Source/The All… any way you can connect to your Higher Power is beneficial and can make your life a happier place to be.

Back in the 90’s I found a group of people in the study of “The Science of Mind” by Ernest Holmes. One thing I found as an AHA moment for me was the Prayer Treatment. It is a specific way to prayer that builds up power and energy therefore becoming a more effective process. Some people find it too difficult for whatever reason but it sounds more complicated than it is and with any new modality, practice of it creates more ease.

The Simplified Prayer Treatment I Use is a 5 Step Process

  1. Recognition

  2. Connection

  3. Affirmation

  4. Gratitude

  5. Releasing

This is a condensed version of the 7R method taught in SOM. I wrote a poem to help myself and my fellow students remember the actions for self-prayer; the technique will be shifted to third person if praying for (treating) another.

  1. Recognition: First, recognize (Higher Power) for what He/She/It is. Get that ‘loving feeling’ for what your God/Source/All really is and that power that you want to tap into.

  2. Connection: Then, feel the connection of your true self and your GodPower; emote a feeling a union, raise your vibration to the point you know you “live and breathe and have your being” within that unification. Know there is enough; know you can ask & receive anything your heart desires.

  3. Affirmation: Now, claim what is yours! Know that it IS. Feel the good that awaits you! Visualize your desire. Use as many senses as possible to experience it (this can be viewed as ‘aligning’ with your design - notice the feelings you are having during this process).

  4. Gratitude: Be thankful for the manifestation of your prayer and the effect it will have in your life. Hug it to yourself like a newborn. Love it.

  5. Release It: Now you have it all solidified within your being, you can release it out into the physical world. Speak it aloud. Speak it with assurance and expectancy. Go about your day knowing that it is done and your path will lead you to it.

The releasing is the most difficult task in this prayer process or any other! As humans we want instant gratification and if it is not forthcoming, we think we have failed in some way or become angry. The truth is, our desires manifest immediately but we are not always able to see them immediately (or within the hour or next day) because the alignment is no longer congruent with it.

Work on keeping that feeling of alignment throughout the day. Prayer is a vehicle for manifesting. Vehicles take energy to move (at least in our current world) so fill up with the good stuff! Thoughts of ‘why’, ‘how’, ‘where is it’, ‘I didn’t do it right’, etc… suck the energy down - it’s like a leak in your gas tank.

prayer treatment poem

Prayer is not a magic wand - even if you’re a Master like Jesus, Buddha, or any other number of modern masters. Prayer is a process where we work with and within the energies of the Universe.
